Alfa Romeo 159 (2005-2011) – batteries

To choose the right battery for the Alfa Romeo 159 from 2005-2011, it’s essential to consider several parameters. Firstly, this model isn’t equipped with a Start-Stop system, so lead-acid batteries are a good choice, offering solid performance and a more affordable price compared to other types of batteries.

For gasoline engines with capacities ranging from 1.8 to 2.2 liters (MPI, TBi, JTS), batteries with a minimum capacity of 60 Ah and a maximum of 65 Ah, with a starting current from 540 to 640 A, are recommended. Examples of compatible models include Bosch S40 05, Exide EA640, and Varta D15, which will meet these requirements and ensure reliable starts even in tougher weather conditions.

In the case of larger units, such as the 3.2 JTS, batteries with capacities from 71 to 74 Ah and a starting current of 670-750 A are recommended. This engine requires a reduced-height battery to be correctly mounted in the vehicle. Suitable models include Bosch S40 07, Exide EA722, and Varta E38. Pay attention to the height specification (175 mm) to avoid installation issues.

For diesel engines, like the 1.9 JTDM and 2.0 JTDM, it’s best to select batteries with a capacity of 74-78 Ah and a starting current of 680-780 A. Models like Bosch S40 08, Exide EA770, and Varta E11 are suitable here. Diesel engines require higher starting currents, especially in winter, so it’s worth noting this specification.

Notably, for the 2.4 JTDM engine, which is one of the stronger diesel options, the minimum battery capacity is 80 Ah, with a starting current from 700 to 800 A. Similar to the 3.2 JTS engine, a reduced-height battery is recommended. Examples of compatible models include Bosch S40 10, Exide EA852, and Varta F18.

Choosing the right battery depends on multiple factors, including engine capacity and type, as well as specific technical requirements like battery height. Regular battery checks and charging maintenance are also advisable to avoid unpleasant surprises, especially during the winter season.
