Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) – batteries

Peugeot 107 - battery locationWhen it comes to selecting the right battery for your Peugeot 107 manufactured between 2005 and 2014, making an informed decision is crucial for ensuring reliable starts, optimal performance, and longevity of your vehicle's electrical systems. The Peugeot 107, a popular city car co-developed with Citroën and Toyota, was offered with a range of small, efficient engines. Because the battery requirements can vary slightly depending on the specific engine and fuel type, it’s important to match your choice to your car’s exact configuration.

For the petrol version with the 1.0-litre engine, which does not feature the Start-Stop system, you should be looking for a standard lead-acid (flooded) battery. The recommended battery capacity for this configuration is 44 Ah (ampere-hours), with a cold cranking amperage (CCA) rating between 400 and 420 A. This ensures enough starting power, even during colder months when batteries can be less efficient. Some examples of compatible battery models for this engine include the Bosch S40 00, Exide EB440, and Varta B36. These are not the only options available, but they represent typical choices that fit both the physical dimensions of the battery compartment and the electrical requirements of your Peugeot 107 with a 1.0-litre petrol unit.

If your Peugeot 107 features the 1.4 HDi diesel engine, which is also not equipped with a Start-Stop system, your battery needs are slightly different. Diesel engines generally require a higher cranking current due to higher compression ratios. For this engine, a lead-acid battery with a capacity between 50 and 58 Ah and a CCA ranging from 420 to 540 A is recommended. This extra power is essential for reliable starting, especially in colder climates where diesel engines can be more challenging to start. A few examples of battery models suitable for this variant include Bosch S40 02, Bosch S50 02, Exide EA530, Exide EB500, Halfords HCB 012, Lucas LP079, Lucas LS012, Varta C22, and Varta C30. Again, these are just representative models; the key is to ensure the battery meets the Ah and CCA specifications and fits properly in the engine bay.

All Peugeot 107 models from this era, regardless of engine type, are designed to use conventional lead-acid batteries rather than more advanced AGM or EFB types. This is due to the absence of modern Start-Stop technology in these vehicles, which can place additional demands on the battery. For most owners, this means replacement costs are lower and battery maintenance is straightforward. However, when choosing a battery, it is important to check for reputable brands and to ensure that the battery is fresh (manufactured within the last 12 months) to avoid early degradation.

A common mistake some car owners make is choosing a battery based solely on physical size or price, without considering key specifications such as capacity (Ah) and cold cranking amps (CCA). Using an underpowered battery can lead to starting problems and increased wear on the battery, while an oversized battery may not fit securely, causing potential safety issues. It is always best to refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations or consult a specialist if in doubt.

Another interesting fact is that the Peugeot 107 shares many components, including batteries, with the Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo of the same generation. This means there is a wide selection of compatible batteries on the market, and you are not limited to Peugeot-branded products. Some owners opt for batteries with slightly higher CCA for extra peace of mind in harsh winters, but it is important not to exceed the recommended size or electrical specifications significantly.

In summary, the key to choosing the right battery for your Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) lies in matching the battery type, capacity, and cold cranking amperage to your engine’s needs. For the 1.0 petrol, opt for a 44 Ah battery with 400-420 A CCA; for the 1.4 HDi diesel, choose a 50-58 Ah battery with 420-540 A CCA. Always opt for a reputable brand, check the manufacture date, and ensure a proper fit. The correct battery will guarantee reliable starts, keep your car’s electronics functioning optimally, and help you avoid unnecessary breakdowns.

  1. dimensions values are useful but without context is confusing.

Even if you state which that you use
Width x Height x Length there needs to be a
diagram or explanation of which is width & length.
