Choosing the right battery for your Hyundai ix35 manufactured between 2010 and 2015 is an important decision that can affect the reliability and longevity of your vehicle. Understanding the correct battery specifications based on your specific engine type, fuel system, and features such as Start-Stop technology is essential for optimal performance. When selecting a battery for this model, one of the first aspects to consider is whether your ix35 is equipped with the Start-Stop system. Vehicles with this technology, designed to save fuel and reduce emissions by turning the engine off when the car is stationary, require batteries with higher endurance and advanced technology, such as EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) or AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat). If your Hyundai ix35 does not have Start-Stop, a standard lead-acid battery is generally sufficient, as long as it meets the minimum capacity and cold cranking amperage (CCA) requirements for your engine.
For petrol engines without Start-Stop, such as the 2.0 and 1.6-liter variants, the recommended battery capacity typically falls between 60 and 65 Ah, with a cold cranking amperage ranging from 390 to 580 A. It is important to pay attention to the mounting type, as these ix35 engines commonly use B0 or Korean B1 mounts rather than the more prevalent B13 type found in many other vehicles. This detail ensures the battery fits securely in the tray and that the terminals align correctly with your vehicle’s wiring. Some example compatible models for these petrol engines include Bosch S40 24, Exide EA654, Exide EB604, Lucas LP005, and Varta D47, but always check the dimensions and mounting specifications before purchasing.
If you own a 1.6-liter petrol ix35 with Start-Stop, you will need a battery with a greater capacity—usually between 70 and 75 Ah—and a higher CCA, typically from 650 to 760 A. In this case, an EFB battery is recommended, as it is specially designed to handle the frequent cycling associated with Start-Stop operation. Some example models that are compatible with this configuration are Bosch S4 E08, Exide EL700, Halfords EFB 096, Lucas LE096, Varta E45, and Varta N70. These batteries are built to provide extended durability and consistent power, which is crucial for vehicles with advanced electrical systems.
Diesel variants, such as the 1.7 CRDi and 2.0 CRDi without Start-Stop, require even higher performance batteries due to the inherent demands of diesel engines, which need more power to start, especially in colder conditions. For the 1.7 CRDi, look for a battery in the range of 68 to 75 Ah and 540 to 630 A CCA. The suitable mounting types here could be B01, B1, or B9, again differing from the more typical B13. Example batteries compatible with these requirements include Bosch S40 26, Exide EA754, Exide EB704, Lucas LP068, and Varta E23. For the 2.0 CRDi models, including 4WD versions, you should consider batteries with 74 to 78 Ah capacity and a CCA between 680 and 780 A. Some example options are Bosch S40 08, Bosch S50 08, Exide EA770, Exide EB740, Halfords HCB 096, Lucas LP096, Lucas LS096, Varta E11, and Varta E44.
For ix35 diesel engines with the Start-Stop feature, such as the 1.7 CRDi Start-Stop, the demands are even greater. These vehicles are best matched with AGM batteries, which can handle deep cycling and frequent engine restarts. The typical capacity required is around 80 to 82 Ah, with a CCA of about 800 A. Example suitable models for this setup include Bosch S5A 11, Exide EK800, Exide EK820, Halfords AGM 115, Lucas LF115, and Varta F21. AGM batteries offer superior performance, longer life, and are more resistant to vibration and temperature extremes—a great choice for modern diesels equipped with many electronic features.
An interesting fact is that the Hyundai ix35, while sharing some battery specifications with other compact SUVs, often utilizes less common battery mounting types such as B0, B1, or B9, which can sometimes make finding the right battery a little more challenging. Always double-check the physical size and terminal configuration before committing to a purchase. Additionally, battery technology has advanced significantly in recent years, with EFB and AGM batteries offering much longer service life, especially in vehicles with Start-Stop systems. Choosing a higher quality battery may cost more upfront but can save money and hassle in the long run by reducing the likelihood of unexpected failures.
To summarize, the correct battery for your Hyundai ix35 depends on the engine size, fuel type, and whether your car is equipped with Start-Stop. Always consult your owner’s manual and consider the mounting type, capacity, and CCA to ensure a proper fit and reliable performance. Using reputable brands and checking compatibility with your specific engine code and trim level will help you find the most suitable battery. Remember, the above models are only examples, and actual compatibility may vary depending on your vehicle’s configuration and production year. Taking the time to select the right battery will help ensure your Hyundai ix35 remains dependable for years to come.

Hi there, I am interested to know If you I was to install a battery with a Higher crank output and amp hour then specified in the tables above for my 1.7CRD ix35… Will it do any damage?
If the battery in your Hyundai ix35 fits in the tray and can be properly mounted in its place, then a larger capacity poses no problem
