BMW 1 Series in version E82 (Coupe) was produced in the years 2007 – 2013. Below we present the specifications of batteries suitable for specific engines.
Basic parameters of batteries suitable for BMW 1 Series (2007-2013):
For the BMW 1 Series with a 125 i gasoline engine, we choose batteries with dimensions of 276x175x190 mm or 278x175x190 mm, whose capacity exceeds 71 Ah. The weakest of these is the battery Exide Excell EB740 which capacity is 74 Ah and Cold Cranking Amps is 680 A. The most powerful battery is Lucas Supreme LS096 of a capacity 78Ah and Cold Cranking Amps: 780 A. All of the above motors have a base hold-down B13.
For these engines, no matter if we have a Start-Stop system installed in the car, we should use batteries made in AGM technology. We choose batteries of dimensions: 278x175x190 mm. The parameters of these batteries are at least 70 Ah of a capacity and 720 A CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). The base hold-down of the above batteries is B13.
For the BMW 1 Series with a M gasoline engine, we choose batteries with dimensions of 315x175x190 mm or 317x175x190 mm, whose capacity exceeds 77 Ah. The weakest of these is the battery Varta Silver Dynamic AGM F21 which capacity is 80 Ah and Cold Cranking Amps is 800 A. The most powerful battery is Exide AGM EK820 of a capacity 82Ah and Cold Cranking Amps: 800 A. All of the above motors have a base hold-down B13.
Owning a BMW 1 Series with a 120 i engine and Start-Stop system means there is a need to use more expensive batteries made with AGM technology. Matching batteries have dimensions 353x175x190 mm. The parameters of these batteries are at least 95 Ah of a capacity and 850 A CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). All of the above motors have a base hold-down B13.
The BMW 1 Series with a 118 d diesel engine should be compatible with batteries of dimensions 315x175x175 mm, with a minimum capacity of 77 Ah. The most basic battery of this set is Exide Excell EB802 of a capacity 80Ah and 700A Cold Cranking Amps, the battery with the biggest capacity is Varta Silver Dynamic F18 of a capacity 85 Ah, having 800A Cold Cranking Amps. All of the above motors have a base hold-down B13.
The diesel engines of the BMW 1 Series listed above have a Start-Stop system, and in this case, this means that we must use batteries produced in AGM technology. The dimensions of batteries suitable for 118 d, 120 d and 123 d engines vary slightly among different manufacturers and are: 315x175x190 mm or 317x175x190 mm. The parameters of these batteries are at least 80 Ah of a capacity and 800 A CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). All of the above motors have a base hold-down B13. If you’re still unsure which battery fits your BMW 1 Series , or if you want to help others in their selection, please send us a photo of your current battery in the comment section at the bottom of the page. You can also send the picture to contact@whatbattery.co.uk (we will place it in the comments to also help other users). Be sure to specify the car model, year, type, as well as the engine capacity and power. We’ll do our best to assist you!
